Knowing what is the right food for our dogs allows us without a shadow of a doubt to make them live better and longer.
To ensure that our dog lives the best life possible, quality food must be central to his diet. With the premise that a veterinarian or nutrition specialist’s advice is never to be avoided, it is important to understand how to go about each day of the week.
A balanced diet for a dog is necessary for his health and well-being. If a dog is well and eats well, it is immediately noticeable.
The aspects that let us know that our dog is healthy reside mainly in the fact that:
~ has energy to spare,
~ wants to play and run,
~ is lively and in good spirits,
~has soft, shiny fur
~his poop is solid with a not too strong odor.
It is usually he or she who tells us that they like a certain food over another, so it is good to trust their tastes, always of course acting with caution.
Animal protein must be the basis of their diet, since dogs are carnivorous animals.
Canned chicken, pork, beef, and lamb are therefore for us, and when accompanied by rice they make a good combination.
Lipids in the form of animal fats, vegetable oils and fiber that help the intestinal tract are the additional elements that should not be missing within the meal.
Controlling the diet is very important: vegetables also play a key role in dogs’ diets.
The healthiest are: broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers; which are rich in minerals and act by purifying the intestines), carrots, which strengthen and protect the stomach walls and stimulate diuresis, green beans as a source of fiber and dietary aid, rich in vitamins C and K , peas and potatoes that neutralize excess acids in the body.
Fruit is also a recommended food, although not all dogs prefer it.
An example are oranges that promote digestion, bananas that are a source of potassium and vitamin B6 and have an antacid effect that protects the stomach from ulcers, watermelons that promote diuresis, and last but not least apples that enhance the shine of the coat and help against inflammation.
As with people, every dog has its own favorite tastes and foods, so we thought below to give you a nice recipe that we are sure your furry ones will enjoy.
DOG COOKIES WITH APPLE AND CARROT
I always find it nice to learn new and tasty recipes for people I love to try, so all the more reason I was very happy to find this recipe to make for my beloved golden retriever. Suitable for dogs of all ages, it is a cute idea to spoil our best friend.
The ingredients are within paw’s reach right below:
- 200 g of whole wheat flour
- 100 g of 00 flour
- 1 small carrot
- 1 large or 2 small apples
- 2 teaspoons of honey
- 1 egg
- a sprinkling of cinnamon powder
- grated lemon peel
- 1 tablespoon sunflower oil
We turn the oven on to 180° before we start so that it is at the desired temperature when we go to bake.
We cut the apple into pieces and cook it in a saucepan with water until it is soft enough to mash with a fork.
We add the cinnamon and mix well, grate the well-washed raw carrot and set it aside.
We combine the two flours, make a fountain and in the center and put all the ingredients. We start kneading starting from the center, and form a soft dough.
We roll out the dough half an inch thick and cut out with a cookie cutter.
We place the prepared cookies on a baking sheet covered with baking paper and let them bake for about 15 to 20 minutes at 180° in the previously heated static oven.
The cookies will be ready once they turn a golden color.
Before we let our little dog (who will surely have been watching us the whole time) taste them, let us remember to let them cool and let them harden for good.
This type of snack can be stored for up to 15 to 20 days.
GOOD TASTING!
